Chaconne

Drabble for prompt, "minor" at drabbles20in20.

Chaconne

Sherlock rosined his bow, and the dust that sprinkled his fingers erased the sensation of blood… It had never bothered him before.

He closed his eyes, but he could not shut out the image of those two dead ones… Last week he had observed enthusiastically while three eyeballs dissolved in sulfuric acid.

His hands would draw living music from the cold wooden instrument—and only four hours before they had drawn the life’s blood from a warm human body.

And yet, if he had not deflected the knife, the dead man would have been his killer.

He began to play.

Yeah. John is the stone cold killer of the two.

Yep, definitely not a sociopath, whatever he says.

(And somehow I don't think John would have the same pangs afterward.)

Beautifully done.

The sociopath thing is a lame excuse...

And I agree-John wouldn't. (This is in part some headcanon background for Sherlock's solicitude: "You have killed a man." But as we know, John could just smile and say "he wasn't a very nice man...")

Thanks for reviewing! I'm very glad you like it.

Wonderful and rather heart-breaking. Sherlock is possibly a sociopath (my understanding is that, while a psychopath has no comprehension of society's basic rules - like "Don't kill people", for instance - a sociopath will perfectly comprehend them, but not care) but there is a huge difference between looking at bodies and see numbers and clues and ending someone's life, by conscious choice or not. Love this drabble :o)

Thanks! Glad you like it.

I actually think that Sherlock is not a sociopath, and that he's convinced himself that he is for convenience sake--perhaps even because of events like this where the pesky emotions made him feel terrible?
